I recently gifted a box of doughnuts to a friend and wanted to include a doughnut themed card. Unfortunately, Stampin’ Up! didn’t have a stamp for the kind of card I wanted to make, so I had to create my own! Today I wanted to share how I made my own doughnut image out of stamps and markers.
When I was trying to figure out how to create this doughnut image, I searched my stamp collection for two stamps (large and small) that were round or close to round. I decided to go with the solid poppy stamp from Painted Poppies for the large one and a similar, but smaller stamp from Dressed to Impress. The larger stamp was inked up and the smaller one was used to stamp off the ink in the centre of the large one. I stamped off, cleaned the small stamp, and stamped off again, repeating this 4-5 times in the same spot. Now, most of the ink in the centre should be removed and you can stamp it to paper.
This isn’t a perfectly round, doughnut shaped image, but it does resemble the icing on a doughnut! Using the thin end of a Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write Marker, I drew an outline of the doughnut around the icing.
Next, I filled in the dough using the Ivory Stampin’ Blend. Be sure to go over the outer edges of the doughnut once more with Ivory to add a bit of dark shading.
Finally, it was time to decorate the doughnut. This was the fun part where you get to be creative with the markers to make toppings – I prefered lots of sprinkles on my doughnuts!!
I turned this yummy doughnut into a card with simple greeting and a few sequins.
Want to challenge yourself with a card full of doughnuts? Simply repeat the steps above on multiple stamped images with different colours of icing:
Doesn’t this look delicious? I added a birthday greeting and some gold sequins to finish off this doughnut -filled card.
I have been making so many cards with this unique technique! Give it a try and you will be hooked on doughnut cards too!!
Happy doughnut stamping!!
