A “Spring” Card

With the unusually, yet amazing, warm weather we have been having lately, spring has been on my mind.  I love watching the snow recede from the gardens and searching for signs of spring, especially where the tulip bulbs were planted.  I found a few little  shoots starting to poke out of the dirt and, even though there is bound to be more snow, I can’t help but be excited for winter to be over.

With all this spring excitement, I was inspired to make a flowery spring card this month and this card, found on Pinterest from Stampin’ Up, was the starting point:

When I was brainstorming about how to make this card my own, and about spring, my mind instantly thought of the other kind of spring – like the little silver, coils found in clicky pens!  How funny would that be to make a spring card using springs?  Well, that is just what I did!

Here is how I made the card and all the supplies used:

I started with the flower and used purple tissue paper that I just happened to have already.  I cut the strip of  1″ x 3″ tissue paper with fringe scissors to make the petals and rolled the tissue around one end of a green toothpick.  The  toothpick was placed inside the spring from an old pen, and a bow was added around the base of the flower.

It makes such a cute “spring” flower!  And don’t they look like a row of crocuses?

The background of the card was made using the Stripes Decoratve Mask from Stampin’ Up and lightly sponging green stamping ink over the mask.  The leaves, from the Madison Avenue stamp set, were stamped in the same green.  Then the flower was simply adhered to the background with glue dots.

A few finishing touches was all that was needed to complete this spring card.  My favourite part was the little, frost white ink dots that represent the inevitable snow that will cover our spring flowers!

Well, I have spent enough time crafting and writing about spring – it is time to head outside and enjoy it!  Maybe I will find some new plants that have emerged in the garden!

Happy Spring!
