Last weekend our family went to look at lottery dream homes in our city and one of the homes was filled with gorgeous plants and succulent accents in every room. It had me dreaming of spring and getting into the garden! Since the temperatures here are closer to -30 than +30, I will have to settle for a paper garden from February’s Paper Pumpkin kit.
Stampin’ Up! is right on trend with this month’s kit that features beautifully photographed succulents and cacti. Each kit comes with everything needed to put the project together including, card bases, envelopes, accents, twine, glue dots, ink spot, and an exclusive stamp set.
When working on a Paper Pumpkin kit, I try to think of how I can get the most out of all the products in the kit. For example, if the predesigned card bases have patterns on the front and back, then I cut them in half and attach the pattern to a white cardstock base. That way if I have 3 cards in the kit, I can stretch the paper to make 6 cards!
Sometimes I follow the instructions and designs suggested in the kit, but I usually alter some aspect of the design to better fit my style. Here are the three cards I created:
With this card, I discovered watercolour pencils can be used on velum and the colours blended nicely with a blender pen. I love how it gives a subtle colour to the leaves and shading on the cup.
Of course, I couldn’t stop there with just three designs! I played around some more and created two more cards.
These fun, trendy cards make me think of spring, and would make great gifts for people who are sick of seeing snow and the cold winter weather.
I am going to offer these 5 cards (with clear envelopes) as an early March card pack for $20 CDN. Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a comment below if you are interested in a pack!
Stay warm and dream of spring!
