Stampin’ Up! Corporate Post – Multicolour Stamping On A Watercolour Background

Hi everyone!! My name is Leah Fedynak and I’m from Alberta, Canada. I am so excited to be a member of the 2020 Stampin’ Up! Artisan Design Team!!  Today I wanted to share a lovely technique I learned recently: multicolour stamping on a watercolour background.

I began this technique by painting Blackberry Bliss, Rococo Rose, and Petal Pink on Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper and blending them together with the Aqua Painter. Be sure to let the watercolour dry completely before moving on to the next step.

For the multicolour stamping part of this technique, the Painted Poppies stamp set from the new 2020 Mini Catalogue was used along with the Stamparatus.

I lined up the large poppy stamp with the centre of the background paper on the Stamparatus and inked one side of the stamp with the lightest colour. A clean tissue was used to dab off some of the ink in the transition zone, and then stamped.

I repeated the inking, dabbing, and stamping with the medium colour and then the darkest colour until the full image was stamped. I tried to line up the colour transitions on the background with the colours on the stamp.

Next, the same three colours were lightly blended on the background with the Sponge Daubers to even out the colours and make them pop a bit more!

Then all that was left to do was add a greeting from Varied Vases, embellish with sequins from the Woven Threads Sequin Assortment, and add some pretty ribbon.  I used the new Whisper White 1/4″ Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon coloured with the Light Petal Pink Stampin’ Blends.

Finally, Tear and Tape was used to adhere the watercolour paper to the Rococo Rose cardstock.

I created one more card using the same background and stamping technique, but with different colours: Pretty Peacock, Bermuda Bay, and Pool Party.   The ribbon was coloured with Light Pool Party Stampin’ Blends and the card front adhered to Pretty Peacock cardstock.

This technique can have so many different looks depending on the colours and stamps chosen and how the background watercolours are blended.  I hope you have fun trying this out!
