Making Cards With Recycled Products From The Kitchen

Have you ever throw something into the garbage or recycling bin and thought, “I wonder if I could use this in my paper crafting?”  I do this all the time (because I have crafting on my mind ALL THE TIME) and sometimes the projects are a hit and sometimes they are a miss.  I wanted to share with you three cards that were a hit when I reused product from my kitchen.

Based off the photo above, can you guess the three different items I used from the kitchen to make these cards?

Give up?

…I used a mesh lemon bag, tea box, and fruit container liner!!

The fruit container liner was the product that inspired this idea of reusing things from the kitchen on my crafts.  Our blackberry container ended up having 10 liners in it that were beautifully textured and completely clean!  I paired it with the Golden Honey DSP and So Sentimental stamp set to make a black and white card with gold accents.

I also could not throw out the gorgeous hologram polka dot sleeve on my David’s Tea box. It was too pretty to just recycle, so I cut it up and used it as patterned paper!

On this card I white embossed the large floral stamp from the new Ornate Style stamp set  on Gray Granite and coloured it in using watercolour pencils. The pencil colouring was left as is and not blended with the Blender Pen so the colour transitions are bolder. I love the spectrum of colours the dotted paper gives off in the light!

And finally, the last card used the mesh lemon bag.  This was not any easy one to figure out! I went through a lot of bad ideas before I just ran it through the Big Shot for a background texture!

I cut a small piece off the bag and treated it like an embossing folder.  The texture left behind was so unique and pretty! I finished the card off with Shimmery White Embossing Paste, watercolour and vellum poppies from the Peaceful Poppies Suite, “hello” stamp from Seriously The Best, and faceted gems to give it some sparkle.

I hope these projects encourage you to have a second look at your kitchen waste!! After all, “One person’s trash is another person’s treasure!”

Happy crafting!

Leah
