When I was thinking of ideas for Thank You cards for the end of the school year, I was focused on cards for teachers. But as I thought about it more, I realized there are so many other people that deserve Thank You cards at this time of year. There are school admin staff, Principals, Vice Principals, after-school care workers, bus drivers, coaches, team managers, etc. The list goes on!! I needed to make more cards!!
When I need to design several cards that are all different, I take the opportunity to try new techniques or practice ones I’ve done before. For these cards I started out by practicing with watercolours which is one of my favourite ways to add background colour.
I love the bold blue in this card! This was painted using only one colour – Pacific Point from Stampin’ Up!.
Another watercolour technique I tried was smooching. Several colours of ink (Night of Navy, Bermuda Bay, and Granny Apple Green) were applied to a silicone mat and spritzed with water. Then the watercolour paper was smooched with the ink and left to dry.
With the left over ink on the mat, I coloured another piece of paper to make a second card:
I also tried a new technique, multi-colour stamping – colouring on a silicone mat with several colours and using this as your inking pad. This is an easy way to get many colours on a stamp and can be repeated over and over.
Then I played around with some floral paper and stamps that I found in my Stampin’ Up! stash…
I loved the extra large teacher cards I made last for last week’s post so I made a regular size version of the bright and colourful striped card.
And finally, a card for the coaches! Since we are in the middle of soccer right now, I created a cute soccer card. (And I tried some brush lettering for the “Coach”.)
I have new sports card designs that will be featured next week, so stay tuned for that! Especially if you will be looking for Father’s Day cards!!
All of these cards are available to order for $5.00 CDN each or 5 for $20.00 (including envelope). Email me at lfedynak@gmail.com or leave a comment if you are interested in getting one, or two.. or five!
