Hello, stampin’ friends! I’m Leah from Alberta, Canada and I’m so proud to be one of the members of the 2020 Artisan Design Team. I can’t wait to share with you two projects I created using the Butterfly Gala stamp set.
Long before I was a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, I studied entomology in university and raised butterflies as a summer job. I have always loved butterflies and have many framed displays of them in my home. I was inspired by the Butterfly Gala Stamps (item 148580) to make a new butterfly collection, but with paper and ink!
To create realistic looking butterflies, I consulted my big book of butterflies and looked at images on the web. I started off by stamping the butterflies in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink (item 132708) onto Shimmery White cardstock (item 101910). I then filled in the wings with different colours of ink by stamping, masking, and blending. The Shimmery White cardstock worked best for blending colours with the Blender Pen (item 102845) and also gave the butterflies a realistic shimmer. Once the butterflies were coloured, they were punched out using the Butterfly Duet Punch (item 148523).
To create a paper version of a display box I folded and assembled a base in Thick Whisper White Cardstock (item 140272), added a Window Sheet (item 142314) on top, and finished it with a Basic Black cardstock (item 121045) frame . (See dimensions below.) Before sealing it up with Tear and Tape (item 138995), the butterflies were arranged and popped up using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals (item 144108).
The display box was adhered to a card base also made from the thick cardstock and a sentiment was stamped inside. Now the butterfly display can sit nicely on a shelf or desk!
I made a second card with butterflies flying off the front of the card! The black cardstock base was stamped and embossed with butterflies using Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder (item 109130) and trimmed with Gold Foil Sheet (item 132622). Each butterfly was then adhered to the card with an extra layer of Vellum (item 101856) to give a soft, fluttery look.
I loved being able to add a realistic look to these stamps and it was fairly easy with this Two-Step Stampin’ set! There is no limit to what can be created with these gorgeous butterfly stamps!
