His And Hers Birthday Cards

Spring is always a busy time of year for us with outdoor sports starting up (except this year!), yard maintenance, and lots of birthdays!! I try to work on my birthday card stash at the beginning of spring so when a birthday pops up that I forgot about, there is a good selection of cards to choose from.

But… sometimes I don’t get the time to make all those cards and I need a quick, yet beautiful design to make a card on short notice.  And even better if it can easily be altered for a man or woman.

I designed this fun birthday cake card to include three layers (DSP, embossed Vellum, and white cardstock with image and greeting) and minimal embellishments. Read on for how I created each of these cards.

The birthday card for him used layers of Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper (DSP) and Vellum embossed with Absolutely Argyle on top of a Whisper White cardstock base.  The birthday cake was simply hand drawn using Ivory, Light Pool Party, and Light Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends.  The tiny candles and “Go on, Celebrate” greeting are from a retired stamp set, Party Hat Birthday. The card was finished off with a simple knotted ribbon.

The birthday card for her follows the same recipe but uses different products.  The DSP is from Ornate Garden and the vellum is embossed with Ornate Floral.  I changed the colours on the cake to Ivory, Dark and Light Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Blends and finished it off with a pink ribbon.

These cards are fairly easy to whip up, but look like they took a lot of work! And the best part is that you can use any DSP, embossing folder, and ribbon that you have on hand.  You could make so many different kinds of variations of the same card!

I hope this gets you inspired to work on some birthday cards!
