Combining Two Crafts: Macrame and Card Making

One day when I was searching Pinterest for new card ideas, I came across several posts with beautiful macrame wall hangings. These were not the old fashioned macrame plant holders of the 80’s that I remember my mom having, but rather modern wall hangings with lots of pattern and texture.

I was intrigued by this craft and found a good beginner tutorial for making some basic knots and used whatever I had in my craft space to get started. Before long, I had made a cute little leaf out of green baker’s twine and thought it would be beautiful as the focal point on a card!

I used the Beautiful Autumn stamp set from Stampin’ Up! to create the gold embossed background and sentiment and simply adhered the macrame leaf to the front of the card with glue dots.

After having success with the leaf, I wanted to try a second small macrame project with some the basic knots on a hoop. I used the small Gold Hoop (2″ diameter) with white baker’s twine and linen thread to create a mini wall hanging. Actually, it should be called a macrame card hanging!!

This time the background was dry embossed with the Pinewood Planks embossing folder and the mini hanging was embellished with leaves using the Beautiful Autumn bundle again.

Now that I have had a little practice at macrame, I would love to try a bigger hanging for our home. Have you tried combining another craft with your cardmaking? If so, I would love to know what you tried!!

Happy crafting!

Leah
