Welcome to Birdwing Paper Designs! I’m Leah from Edmonton, Alberta and I can’t wait to share our March project for the 2021Artisan Design Team!

For this month’s project, I was delighted to work with the Simply Succulents Bundle and Flowering Cactus Refill Kit from the January-June 2021 Mini Catalogue. I wanted to make something different with this kit other than the usual cards that I tend to do, I made one card and a cute little gift box with a cactus themed bunting tucked inside!

The card used the Simply Succulents Bundle (which included the Simply Succulents stamp and the Potted Succulents Dies).

On this card, I wanted to show a few ink blending methods: one with the Blending Brushes and one with the Sponge Daubers. The large background succulent stamp was coloured with three different greens (Mint Macaron, Pear Pizzazz, Mossy Meadow) using the Blending Brush. This brush is best used to cover larger areas while the Sponge Daubers are great for ink blending smaller areas like the Rich Razzleberry and Calypso Coral flowers in front.

This bundle also includes so many versatile dies with background, flower, plant, and label dies! Can you see how many dies I used on this card?!

For the second project, I included products from the Flowering Cactus Refill Kit to create a bunting with a pretty gift box to store it in.

The base of the bunting was made from Crumb Cake card stock cut to 1.5″ wide x 3.75″ long and notched at the bottom. Each piece of the bunting was covered with DSP included in the Flowering Cactus Refill Kit. I then decorated each one with cactus and flowers cut from the DSP, felt flowers, linen thread, and Opal Rounds.

The bunting was sized to fit in the Love You Always Treat Boxes that was decorated with the same cactus products and embellishments as the bunting. The top of the box was also ink blended with the same green colours as the card above! Wouldn’t this make a cute little gift set to brighten someone’s day?!
