Winter Woods Ornament

Last month I wrote a post about making holiday cards using the October Paper Pumpkin Kit, Winter Woods, from Stampin’ Up!.  At the end of the post I mentioned that some of the paper birch tree elements had not been used and were being saved for another project.  Well, today I am going to show you what I did with those trees… a Winter Woods ornament!

I first saw the idea for this ornament in a local store and knew that I could make something similar using the birch trees and and stamped red cardinals from the October Paper Pumpkin kit.

I used a 3.75″ flattened round ornament (not a spherical one) and cut a 3.5″ circle out of window sheet to be the base for trees and birds to attach to.  I stamped a red cardinal in Poppy Parade and also stamped the reverse image using the silicone mat trick. Both birds were cut out by hand.

One bird was attached to the front of the tree, and the reverse image to the back.  Also on the back of the tree, I added 4 adhesive dots that came with the kit.

After removing the adhesive dot backing, the tree was added to centre of the round window sheet. The overhanging bits of the tree were trimmed.

Before moving on to the next step of putting the window sheet in the ornament, I made sure there were no fingerprints or dirt on it.  In fact, after it was all cleaned up, I wore gloves so I wouldn’t get the window sheet dirty again!

To get this into the ornament, I very carefully rolled the window sheet until it was small enough to fit in the opening at the top of the ornament.

Once it was inside the ornament, the window sheet popped open. I simply used a pair of tweezers to rotate it so the trees were vertical.

The final steps to finish the ornament off were to add some artificial snow to the bottom, put the ornament topper on, and add a ribbon to hang it.

It is such a simple ornament to make and it looks fantastic hanging in the all the lights from the tree!
