With just under two weeks until Valentine’s Day, I wanted to share a couple of cards: one that is for the beginner card maker and one that is more avid.

These cards were inspired by a retired product from the Aug-Dec Mini Catalogue, the Red Velvet Paper Pack. That paper sat in my drawer all holiday season – I was completely stuck for what to use it for! Then I was looking for a rich red colour to make Valentine’s Day hearts and I remembered I still had the red velvet paper. It was perfect!!

For a simple, easy to make card, I punched out a red velvet heart and coordinating white scalloped heart with the Heart Punch Pack. The hearts were popped up on a Crumb Cake card base using Dimensionals. The sentiment was from the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set and was notched with the Classic Label Punch. Finally, the card was finished off with two cute, red Resin Heart Embellishments. I love how bold and fuzzy this red heart is!!

The second card had a few more techniques added to it to turn it from a basic card to a fancy one!

To start, the red velvet heart was run through the Stampin’ Cut and Emboss Machine with the Ornate Floral 3D embossing folder to give the heart a bit of pattern. Then I added a few strips of Gilded Leafing using the stem from Back to Back Blooms, VersaMark, and Heat & Stick Powder. (See my previous post about using the Gilded Leafing embellishment for more instructions.) And finally, to finish off the fancy card, a few extra Resin Hearts and Gold Trim were added.

If you plan on making some Valentine’s Day cards, now is a great time to start and I highly recommend looking through your paper stash for some forgotten Red Velvet Paper!
