For my last Corporate Post on the Stampin’ Up! Facebook Page for the 2022 Artisan Design Team, I am sharing two cards created using the Eclipse Technique that will make your die cut greetings pop! The Eclipse Technique raises a die cut from a patterned background and it looks like it’s floating on the card. Read on below to learn how to make it…

To begin this technique, stamp a background pattern. I used the flowers from Art Gallery in Tahitian Tide and Pacific Point. Next, die cut a greeting from the background and set all of the pieces to the side, including the inside of the letters. The background can be adhered to a card base, and then die cut three more sets of the same greeting from Thick Basic White Cardstock. Glue one of the white greetings to the card base and fill in the negative space of the letters with the stamped background pieces.

To finish the technique, add the remaining two white die cut greetings before finishing with the stamped greeting on top. I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue to glue down all the die cuts, but you could also use the Adhesive Sheets. The resulting effect is a subtle pop of the greeting that takes your card to the next level.

The second card uses the same Eclipse Technique but with a fun blended pattern. It’s easy to make the wave template for blending: draw a wavy line on a piece of cardstock and cut. Start the blending at the top with Tahitian Tide, flip the template and blend Pacific point, then flip the template one more time to add Night of Navy to the bottom of the card. I also added some drops of water with a Water Painter to give a splatter effect. The Eclipse Technique on this card is very effective with the words cutting through all the layers of blue.

This technique can be done with any kind of background – stamped, ink blended, DSP, embossed, etc. And you could also experiment with different kinds of die cuts, not just greetings or letters. I hope you give it a try and be sure to share it on Instagram with #eclipsetechnique and tag me @ellefedynak – I would love to see what you create!
