The Beginning of Year Two

On this day last year I never imagined I would be celebrating my one year anniversary of Birdwing Paper Designs and still moving forward strongly.  To be honest, I thought I would have given up long ago!  I think it is my love of creating photobooks and knowing that there is a need to help people document the important events and everyday moments in their lives.  The photos and stories that go with them need to be shown off, not just for ourselves but for other generations to see.  This is what keeps me going.

In celebration of this big day, I thought I would give my faithful followers and friends a free 5″ x 7″ print that I created.  This print was inspired by the “Keep Calm and Carry On” poster that has become quite popular.  If don’t know the story behind the poster, here is a really interesting video about it:

There are so many parodied versions of this poster all over Pinterest and I thought, “What would my version be?”  It came to me almost instantly: Be Calm You’re a Good Mom.  You have no idea how many times a day I say this!!!  I have been wanting to print this out and I thought today would be the perfect day to share it with everyone.  I made two versions so if you would like me to send you one just leave a comment saying which one you would like.  Pleases share this offer with anyone you know who needs a little inspiration to get through the day.  Offer expires August 2, 2012.

Traditional Card One:

or Modern Card Two:

Elements from Stampin’ Up and Katie Pertiet.

This print can be framed or add a magnet to the back and stick it on the fridge.  I have the traditional card in my office to remind me that I am a good mom even though life with kids can be crazy and stressful!

In the above picture I would just like you to note my new Swarovski pen and USB stick that my awesome husband gave me for my one year business anniversary.  Now I am really ready to head into year two!!  I am very excited to see what direction my business takes this year and I am certain that it will be challenging, scary, and so rewarding.

Silhouette Decor

"Billet Doux" from One Little Bird Designs

The whole family has been sick for the last two weeks and as horrible as it is to look after sick kids when you are also sick, a few good things did come of it.  There was a lot of quiet time to work on scrapbooking projects and I even had a hint of inspiration one day and did some rebranding.  You may have noticed that I have been experimenting with the image at the top of my blog as it never looked quite right to me.  Well, I finally came up with a new design that I really liked so I also designed new business cards, watermark (as seen in the picture above), and advertisement.   That’s right, advertisement!  I finally put my first advertisement in our community newsletter and I am feeling a bit nervous about it.  We will see what happens when it comes out this summer!

The other good thing that came from having sick and sluggish kids is that I was finally able to get them to sit still for a profile picture so I could attempt to make their silhouettes.  I quite like how they turned out and I will be printing and framing each silhouette for some artwork for our main bathroom.

Happy Easter!

Wall Art for Grandparents

I have had some great feedback on the wall art projects and one of the suggestions was to make one for grandparents with pictures of all the grandkids.  This project can take up to eight black and white photos and for this example I just used photos of our family.  I think I may have to make one for my dad with all of his grandkids!  The accent colour can also be changed to almost any colour to suit your decor. This page will also be $25.00 for a 12″ x 12″ size.

Another suggestion I had was to have the pages printed on canvas so they can be hung directly on the wall.  I have been looking into this and decided to try placque mounting.   I will let you know how it turns out and if I will be adding this option to the pages.

Have a great week!!

New Product: Kids Room Art

I have been thinking about what new product to showcase for Christmas.  Lots of ideas ran through my head, but I decided to do personalized art for kids rooms.  The elements of the page stay the same, I just change the photo and name to your child.  I have a couple ready to go-one for a boy, a girl  and one for christmas, 12″x12″, printed professionally, and just needs to be put in your favorite frame.

If you are interested in ordering any of these, they are $25.00 each.  You can contact me at lfedynak@gmail.com and I will give you all the details I need to know.  Just be sure to order before November 1, 2011 to make sure your picture is here for Christmas.

The wall art I have for the boy was inspired by this kit called “Monsters Under My Bed” by Micheline Martine of After Five Designs and I knew this would be perfect for a little boys room. (Most of the pictures in my samples are my kids, but I change up the name so I am not always making pages with Casey and Robyn on them.)

For the first girls art I had to do something pretty, pink, and flowery.  This page uses digital designs from Biograffiti with a kit called “Baby Love”.

This Christmas inspired page was actually the first one I made (since I was thinking of Christmas projects).   I used a kit that I love called “Adorned” from Paislee Press-it is a little christmassy without being over the top.  This is the only one I have framed, so I took a picture to show you what it looks like in a frame.  (Sorry for the poor photo, eventually I will get a better camera!)

I hope you like these products and I am working on more wall art sized at 8 1/2″ x 11″.   Suggestions for themes are more than welcome and if you have a specific theme you would like, just contact me at lfedynak@gmail.com.
