My husband really likes the Chalkboard Christmas photocard so that will probably the one I print for our family. My favorite is Merry & Bright mostly because I love that photo of the kids. Maybe I will have to get two different sets of photocards this year!! What is your favorite?
If you have any questions about the photocards or ordering, please leave a comment below or email me at lfedynak@gmail.com.
I know most people don’t think about their Christmas cards until December, but I am not like most people. I feel like I am behind if I haven’t designed my cards by September. For the past ten years I have been sending out handmade Christmas cards, but this year I decided to evolve with the digital age and make my own family photocards. I wanted to make one that didn’t look like any other photocard I had seen and when I saw a Photoshop chalkboard tutorial, I knew this was the beginning of my holiday card.
Of course, I couldn’t stop there!! I couldn’t just design one photocard!
Kitta gave me this photo to use in their family photobook, but as soon as I saw it I knew it would be perfect for a holiday card. I am in the process of designing two more holiday photocards and they will all be available for order soon with your own family pictures. I just wanted to give you sneak peek and get you thinking about those Christmas cards!
I will also be offering traditional Christmas cards and once I have finished designing those I will post them with prices too.
Do you take hundreds (or for some, thousands) of pictures when you are on vacation? And what are you supposed to do with all those photos? So much time can be spent organizing, tagging, and if you are lucky, editing. … Continue reading →
I know not everyone is ready to think about Christmas yet, but I have been thinking about it for over a month already. Our community league has a Christmas craft sale in November and this year I am hoping to sell some of my paper crafts. I can’t really sell photobooks since those are custom made, but I am hoping the craft sale will give me an opportunity to promote my photobook business while selling other paper products. I am still in the brain storming phase for the paper crafts and will post some samples as soon as I decide what I am making.
In preparation for this craft sale I decided to make some new business cards. I have been wanting to do this for a while but never saw anything that I liked. Thank goodness for Pinterest!! I saw these beautiful DIY business cards and had to make some of my own.
I found the kraft labels from Martha Stewart at Staples and the paper is from a few local scrapbook stores. By making my own, I am able to change the style of the business cards anytime I want and not have 200 old cards lying around!
I will keep you posted about the products I am making for craft sale and if anyone has any ideas I would be more than happy to hear them!
Last December I made a December Daily photobook for my kids where each page represented a Christmas tradition, decoration, or favorite moment every day between December 1-25. I loved the idea of having them remember what Christmas was like when they were too young to remember for themselves.
This summer I am creating the same kind of photobook for all of our summer adventures, but instead of daily it documents the summer by week. I am making this one more for me than for Casey and Robyn because I want to remember all the great places I have been with them, the people we have visited, and the fun that we had together. Our favorite places to go are the spray park, Fort Edmonton Park, The Valley Zoo, Grandpa’s to raid the raspberries and peas, the backyard kiddie pool, and anywhere that has ice cream! What are your favorite places to go with the kids in the summer?
Here is a peak at a few pages from the album that will document summer life from May 1 to the end of September 2012. I hope you are enjoying your summer and are taking lots of pictures to document your summer fun!
On this day last year I never imagined I would be celebrating my one year anniversary of Birdwing Paper Designs and still moving forward strongly. To be honest, I thought I would have given up long ago! I think it is my love of creating photobooks and knowing that there is a need to help people document the important events and everyday moments in their lives. The photos and stories that go with them need to be shown off, not just for ourselves but for other generations to see. This is what keeps me going.
In celebration of this big day, I thought I would give my faithful followers and friends a free 5″ x 7″ print that I created. This print was inspired by the “Keep Calm and Carry On” poster that has become quite popular. If don’t know the story behind the poster, here is a really interesting video about it:
There are so many parodied versions of this poster all over Pinterest and I thought, “What would my version be?” It came to me almost instantly: Be Calm You’re a Good Mom. You have no idea how many times a day I say this!!! I have been wanting to print this out and I thought today would be the perfect day to share it with everyone. I made two versions so if you would like me to send you one just leave a comment saying which one you would like. Pleases share this offer with anyone you know who needs a little inspiration to get through the day. Offer expires August 2, 2012.
Traditional Card One:
or Modern Card Two:
Elements from Stampin’ Up and Katie Pertiet.
This print can be framed or add a magnet to the back and stick it on the fridge. I have the traditional card in my office to remind me that I am a good mom even though life with kids can be crazy and stressful!
In the above picture I would just like you to note my new Swarovski pen and USB stick that my awesome husband gave me for my one year business anniversary. Now I am really ready to head into year two!! I am very excited to see what direction my business takes this year and I am certain that it will be challenging, scary, and so rewarding.
My favorite pages in my family albums are the ones that I have done about the crazy, weird, and funny things my kids say. I know I won’t remember these phrases in a couple of years, so I try to write them down every six months and incorporate them into my scrapbook page.
Even if you don’t scrapbook or keep your family albums up-to-date, I encourage you to at least write down the silly things they say because one day soon you will be thankful that you did.

After Jason and I were married in November 2006 (which was a very, very cold and snowy winter day) I went straight to work on our wedding album. I wanted to do it while it was still fresh in my mind and the details still vivid. Back in 2006 I had yet to learn about digital scrapbooking and made my wedding album the old fashioned way with printed photos and scrapbook paper. What a lot of work that was!! All the cutting paper, arranging photos, printing journalling, adding little flowers, and just making it perfect. I think it took me close to tthree months to finish it!!
I have given up on traditional scrapbooking and I am 100% digital. I have always thought about doing another wedding album just to have it printed in a nice photobook, but it has never been a priority. Until now!! I have been trying to get some wedding book samples ready and found a beautiful album template from Paislee Press called Defined. The colours were perfect for my wedding photos, so I took it as a sign that I needed to make this album right now! So here it is, all 26 pages with photography by Jason’s sister, Amber Fedynak, and our good friend, Conrad Poirier.

An album template is much simpler to use and this book doesn’t have a lot of frills so it only took me 2 1/2 hours to complete the whole book. I love how it turned out and I can’t wait to get it printed!
